Some useful information on Blog software

This belongs somewhere else, but I'm not sure where. I use Blogger for most of my web pages. But Blogger has certain frustrating limitations, and so I've explored various alternatives over the last couple of years, in particular, Moveable Type. I ramble on in some other thread about how great MT is, but that was like, a whole YEAR ago and things have kept changing...

MT used to be free, but now they charge private businesses for licenses. Fortunately I am once again working for an educational institution and so I think we get it free or at least at a deep discount. While briefly unemployed between my two university jobs, however, I was cast out into the cold cruel world of the private contractor. I say cold and cruel because, as a long-time tech firm employee, and now as a multi-year University employee, I've rarely had to pay for software, or even for most of my computers. Suddenly I had to PAY and CHOOSE the tools I would use to pay the bills. So it was Blogger, 'cause it's free.

Now there's a whole new rack of tools to choose from, most with sophisticated template languages and tools to import your data from somewhere else. I like to find something and stick with it as long as possible. I don't want to spend all my time configuring software and seeing if my ISP supports something or other; I want to write, and work on my projects, and only briefly interact with my computer when it suits me. It is so frustrating to be mid-something else, want to jot something into a Blog, and for SOME reason everything has turned to sludge or some popup informs me that my virus defs have expired and all of a suddent, instead of being productive and creative I'm watching the little hourglass with one eye and staring out the window with the other, waiting, wondering if there's time to pop in a piece of toast.

Anyways, enough of that rant, here's a breakdown someone did on the various tools. Hope this helps:
