These are a few of the songs I wrote for Ultrabreakfast.  There are more but I can’t think of them right now.  The ones that were on the album Icecream Tricycle are marked in blue.

I sing some of these songs in the new band, The Silent Wheel (formerly Aqueduct), and have plans to record a few of them.

Orange Car

Standing on the shoulders of giants I can see you

Catching fireflies in a jar

Standing on the steps of the sun I can see you

Driving away in my orange car

(repeat 1st verse)

Cacophone

Wish I was a trapezoid - I could be your folding toy

Wish the box I made for you was big enough for me too

Wish I had a cacophone - you could see I'm not alone

Maybe there's no antidote - wish I'd never left that note

Wish these dreams would go away so I could sleep alone

Wish I had a cacophone - you could see I'm not at home

If I had a cacophone you could see I'm all alone

If I was a violin you could touch the shape I'm in

And if I was a xylophone we'd end it on this note

Trilogy

1 - Cooler Than California

Listening all day to Mercury Rev

Stretched out late like taffy in the afternoon

Thinking all day about this state of stasis

In my mirror sideways eyes of shame

               Cooler than California

               Cooler than Echo Beach

               Cooler than Charlie Manson

               Cooler than Angelyne

Listening all day to Sonic Youth

Spilling out like coffee beans on the counter

Thinking all day about cleaning up my room

In my mirror sideways eyes of shame

               Cooler than California

               Cooler than Echo Beach

               Cooler than Frank Sinatra

               Cooler than Angelyne

2 - Window Made of Glass

Watching you come around the corner

Watching you in your brand new shoes

Watching you walk down my street

Watching you through my window made of glass

Through my window made of glass

Through my window made of glass

3 - Silver Surfer

I've grown tired of the in-between in between here and there

I've grown cold walking backwards in between what might have been

But tonight I'm the Silver Surfer - spilling stars like grains of sand

I've grown tired of the in-between in between you and me

I've grown old I've grown awkward in between what might have been

Yeah, tonight I'm the Silver Surfer - spilling stars like grains of sand

Raise your glass cause I'm the Silver Surfer

I'll crush a diamond with my hand

Ocean

She has a weird dream

Wakes up falling wakes up calling

There's a man walking on the water

And there's blankets on the beach

There's a cable to the ocean

And mama's down deep

She has a weird dream

It's about a cable to the ocean

She's a little bit confused

She's a little bit lost

Baby's underwater

She dreams of this

They're all watching

From blankets on the beach

That man he's still walking on water

And mama's down deep

She's a little bit confused

A little bit lost

Baby's underwater

She's down there calling

Down there falling

Baby's underwater

She dreams of this

Dragon

(Music by Steve Bryson)

Saw you on the corner saw you - you were wearing a raincoat

Wish I had a picture - wish I had a picture of you

Saw you on your corner saw you wearing a Walkman

Wish I had a picture - wish I had a picture of you

Saw you on the corner saw you holding a flower

Wish I had a picture - wish I had a picture of you

Saw you on your corner saw you folding paper

Wish I had a picture - wish I had a picture of you

Saw you on the corner saw you - you were eating a sandwich

Wish I had a picture - wish I had a picture

Wish I had a picture – wish I had a picture of you

Unabomber

You might be the Unabomber

This might be my badge of honor

Maybe I'm the one who should be smiling

Maybe I'm the one

Smiling at your past of shadow

Smiling as the dream dissolves

Smiling as the day deserts you

Statue made of gingerbread

Do you always start with the head?

You know I almost thought you were dead

Wish List

I wanna meet the guys from Superchunk

Want all my friends to stop doing junk

Want a piece and you can have one too

Want an albino kangaroo

It's a forty second moment

In the beat before disaster

It's not what you expected

It's like breathing underwater

Wanna check out the Louvre and maybe the moon

Wanna get stoned and watch cartoons

Want a time machine and a lump o' coal

Want Billy Ruane to save my soul

I'm not the one you wanted

I'm the pebble in your shoe

It's not what you expected

Yeah well fuck you

Disappearing

Gave you all my love

Now I'm taking it away

Risked my world on you

Now there's nothing left to say

I followed you down

To the dark side of town

It felt like drowning

Felt like disappearing

You cast this spell on me

Now your eyes have gone cold

Wrapped me in your smile

Guess this game got old

I followed you down

To the dark side of town

It felt like drowning

Felt like disappearing

Automile

Where did I leave off

Oh yeah, you were leaving

In a pale-blue El Camino

Spinning away down the Automile

And where did I get off

Thinking I could change that

In a pale-blue El Camino

Spinning off like a hubcap

Check it out, babe

The streets are paved with white, white, white

Fall down beside me

Make an angel in the snow

Where did we leave off

Was it somewhere out on Rt 140

In a pale-blue El Camino

Spinning the knobs on the radio

And where do you get off

Saying that you know me

And how do you get off

Guess that's none of my business

Check it out, babe

The streets are paved with white, white, white

Fall down beside me

Make an angel in the snow

Where did I leave off

Oh yeah, you were leaving

In a pale-blue El Camino

Spinning away down the Automile

Murder

Please don't break my heart again

Don't think I can take it

'Cause it took so long to bake it

You have retreated

To a distant place

Don't think I can take it

Your eyes have changed

And you're losing grace

Such a beautiful face

Lost to empty space

It's killing you

And it's killing me

Don't you know

It's murder

Please don't say that word again

Don't think I can take it

Don't think I can fake it anymore

You used to gleam

It made me scream inside

So glad to be beside you

Now you’ve edged on down the bench

And there's nothing here beside me

But an empty space

And your empty face

It's killing you

And it's killing me

Don't you know (X3)

It's murder

Please don’t break my heart again

Don’t think I can take it (X3)

Brainchild

I could cry you a river

Or buy you a blanket

Or pull out my key chain

Or blow out my tired brain

But this is religion

Like this is a brainchild

And there's no reason

To crawl out the window

So let's get drunk

And watch the sun rise

Come inside girl

Just come inside, come inside

'Cause this is religion

Like this is a brainchild

And there's no reason

To crawl out the window

Small John

Small John went down by the river

Small John went down to the sea

Small John went down to fetch some water

Samll John - Small John

Small John wished that he was taller

Small John wished that he was brave

Small John wept beside the ocean

Small John - Small John

Small John climbed the tallest boulder

Small John tore his tiny hands

Small John stood before his maker

Small John - Small John

Big Hotel

I dreamed of a big hotel

All shining carpets and moonbeams

You pulled up on your rocket sled

My hat felt slightly crooked

There is danger here

In this big hotel

There is danger here

In this dream of you

Everyone came to see you

Smile your domino smile

We all sipped at our sealing-wax

The night was frozen, blinking

There is danger here

In this big hotel

There is danger here

In this dream of you

There is danger here

Your dress is burning red

There is danger here

There is danger here

Full-On Denim

Where'd you get that crazy coat?

Where'd you get that lo-fi t-shirt?

Where'd you meet your pierced-up girlfriend?

I want one

I'm gonna go out tonight

Gonna get my hand stamped twice

Gonna get it right this time

In full-on denim

We'll drive around in smoky cars

Hang out in junkie bars

I'll learn to play guitar

You'll wear sneakers with stars

I'm gonna go out tonight

Gonna get my hand stamped twice

Gonna get it right this time

In full-on denim

Lady Fay

Sweet lady Fay

Take my hand

I’ll be your man

Sweet lady Fay

Close your eyes

I’ll be your sky

Ahhhhhh ahhhh ahhhah

Please don’t go

Prayer for Rain

If you think about it hard then you’ll see it plain

That a cat’s meow is just a prayer for rain

A night without sleep is a waking dream

And a cat’s meow is a prayer for rain

It’s a cat’s meow

It’s a prayer for rain

This one sprung fully-grown from my brain

When the cats came in just to hear me play

Looked at me as if to say

That a cat’s meow is a prayer for rain

It’s a cat’s meow

It’s a prayer for rain

Gonna write about it in your little book

Open the spigot and let your life our out

Cross your eyes and stare up at the sky

Tip right over and spill it out

It’s a cat’s meow

It’s a prayer for rain
